Le Creuset Saucepan

I've been using pyrex saucepans for years. You know, the light brown ones made of glass. Easy to clean and good to use, but they stopped making them - well, i couldn't find them anyway. So when i broke my saucepan or lost a lid i needed to consider replacing them all.
I'd always liked the design of the Le Creuset Saucepan range, but considered them too expensive - but i was feeling rich one day (not any more!) so felt a treat to myself was in order.
I bought a set of three saucepans, 1.1 liters, 1.5 liters and 1.9 liters in the classic green - as these matched my kitchen. They are also available in satin blue, kiwi, cerise, granite, black, almond, orange, dark blue and teal.
they are built from cast iron with a smooth enamel coating, green on the outside (in my case) and cream interior. All saucepans have pouring lips and matching lids with black handles. Wooden handles have a metal ring on the end so you can hang them if neccessary. They are all dishwasher proof and have a lifetime guarantee.
You can use them with any heat source. i use gas, but they also work perfectly with halogen, ceramic, electric or with an aga or Rayburn. You could use one under the grill if you wanted to!
Because they are cast iron, you need only use a medium - low heat to cook. I find the best method is to start with a medium heat and then then once hot, to dial this down to low to keep the pan hot.
A Le Creuset saucepan has a flat bottom which stops hotspots you can get with an uneven surface - these lead to burnt food so it's nice to not have that worry. The only downside of the iron is that it makes the pans heavy. When they are full with water and vegatables you can sometimes need two hands to lift it.
The enamel coating makes the le creuset saucepans a joy to clean, make sure to not use an abrasive cleaner - just hot soapy water and a smooth cloth will get anything off it. On the rare occasion i have managed to weld something to the bottom, i find that just boiling water with soap powder in the pan brings the shine back to it.
Le creuset also make a whole range of cookware to match the saucepan, such as casserole dishes, kettles, milk pans, saute pans and frying pans.
To conclude i definately don't regret spending the money, and intend to keep buying bits and pieces to match my set whenever funds allow it.
